Technology help at home

Patient, practical help with the technology you already own, in your own home. We work through it together, and you do it yourself before I leave.

Common reasons to book

Most people get in touch about something specific that has stopped working, or about a device they have not quite got to grips with. These are the usual ones.

  • Get comfortable with a new phone, tablet or computer.
  • Sort out email, contacts and calendars so they work together.
  • Organise, back up, share or print photographs.
  • Set up Wi-Fi, a printer, a smart television or streaming.
  • Use the NHS App, online forms or government services.
  • Improve your password and two-factor authentication habits.
  • Learn practical uses for AI, and where its limits are.
  • Choose, set up or move to a replacement device.

How a visit works

The aim is that you can do it again yourself next time, without me.

  • We agree what you want to achieve. Before anything is changed, we settle on what a good outcome looks like — even if that is simply “I want to send a photo to my sister”.
  • I sort out or set up what is needed. You stay with the device and you type your own passwords.
  • I explain what I did, in plain language. No jargon, and no pretending a problem was smaller than it was.
  • You do it yourself, while I am still there. This is the part that makes it stick.
  • You keep a short written note. What we covered, and what to try next, so you are not relying on memory a week later.

What you keep

You stay in control the whole way through. You are at the keyboard, you type your own passwords, and I explain what I am doing as I go rather than working in silence.

Before I leave, you will have a short written note of what we covered and what to try next. If something is still not right afterwards, get in touch and we will sort it out.

What it costs

Prices are per appointment, not per hour, and travel is included across the published core area. There is no charge for the introductory call.

£89

Home appointment, 90 minutes. For a first visit, several problems in one go, setting up a new device, or a proper teaching session.

Returning home appointment £59 60 minutes, for a focused follow-up once we know each other.
Remote support, short £30 30 minutes, booked on a Friday.
Remote support, longer £55 60 minutes, booked on a Friday.
Introductory telephone call Free Up to 15 minutes, to work out what you need and whether I can help.
Remote support is intended for customers I have already visited. See remote support for how it works.

What this is not

So that nobody books the wrong thing, it is worth being plain about the limits.

  • Not specialist hardware repair. I do not do board-level diagnostics or component-level repairs. If a device needs that, I will say so rather than take it on.
  • Not high-risk data recovery. If a drive has failed, professional recovery is the right route.
  • Not business IT support. This is one-to-one help for individuals and households. No managed IT, no network administration, no contractual response times.
  • Not an open help desk. Support is booked rather than on demand, so that everyone gets a proper slot.
