Remote support

Booked help over a screen share, on Fridays. It suits smaller problems and follow-ups once we have already met, and it saves you waiting for a home visit.

At the moment remote support is for customers I have already visited. If we have not met yet, please start with a home visit — it is a better use of your money for a first appointment.

How a remote appointment works

You are involved the whole way through. Nothing happens on your computer that you cannot see.

  • You book a Friday slot. Remote appointments run on Fridays, at 30 or 60 minutes.
  • I explain what will happen before we start. Including what you will see on your screen.
  • You start the session, using a fresh code. The connection is opened by you, not by me.
  • We work through it together. You stay at the keyboard and type your own passwords.
  • We finish, and I check the connection is closed. I do not keep unattended access to your computer.
  • You get a short note of what we did. The same as after a home visit.

What it costs

Your accounts stay yours

A lot of people reasonably want to know what happens with their passwords before they let anyone near their device. Here is the whole of it.

  • You type your own passwords. Always. I will show you where to type them, and then look away.
  • I do not keep your passwords or recovery codes. Nothing is written down, photographed or stored.
  • No banking, no money, no decisions. I will not operate your online banking, move money, buy investments or make financial decisions for you. I will never ask for a banking password or a card PIN.
  • Remote access is booked, temporary and closed afterwards. You start the session, it uses a fresh code, and I check the connection is disconnected at the end. I do not keep unattended access to your computer.
  • If anything about consent or authority is unclear, I stop. That applies to family bookings too.

If you are not sure whether it suits

Remote help is not always the right answer. If a printer needs moving, a device needs setting up from scratch, or you would simply rather have someone in the room, a home visit is the better choice.

Ask when you get in touch and I will tell you which makes more sense — including if the answer is neither.
